Welcome to the pages of my company.
My name is Mathias Picker and I have been working in the IT industry since 1984. With my extensive experience in data modeling, programming and business analysis, I have successfully implemented numerous projects for embassies, administrations and large companies such as Siemens AG.
I have been involved in knowledge representation since my early days in IT, even if at that time this meant more relational or even hierarchical models, or formalisms such as KL-ONE or the predecessors of the Knowlege Interchange Format (KIF) that were not (yet) usable in business.
Today, I can bring this background knowledge to business applications with the technologies that come from the Semantic Web or even property graphs, which take full advantage of the more finely structured and both logically and visually representable world of graph data models to quickly provide useful solutions to my clients.
Semantic data models, knowledge graphs, persistent IDs, language models and retrieval augmented generation can now be combined into powerful systems that enable an integrated enterprise view across heterogeneous data.
I am proficient in a variety of programming languages, including Clojure, Python and JavaScript, and have deep knowledge of data models and graph databases, from Oracle and PostgreSQL to semantic triples like Stardog, RDFox, GraphDB.
In addition to my technical skills, I bring a strong background in coaching and am skilled at interviewing decision makers to understand their needs and goals. I am able to translate business requirements into technical requirements and have experience in leading teams, both onsite and virtually. In addition, I am an experienced negotiator and have successfully led team building activities and business deals.
In my long career, I have learned and led various project methodologies, from classic waterfall models to eXtreme Programming and Scrum. Thanks to my extensive coaching training, I am well prepared to support one or more Scrum teams as a Scrum Master. I have also successfully led agile teams and projects in the field of agile data modeling.
I use BDD methods such as Gherkin and test runners such as Selenium or Playwright to validate requirements and test the resulting software; I manage test cases in VCS where possible and also use TCMS such as Kiwi if necessary.
